The New Yorker’s Music Review of “Bad as Me” by Tom Waits
This excerpt will make you want to read the whole article. Or at least look up what a lariat is.
“If you break open a song, you’ll find the eggs of other songs…Misunderstandings are really kind of an epidemic and acceptable. I think it’s about one thing, but someone else will say, ‘That song is kind of a rhino in hot pants on a burnt rocking horse with a lariat shouting, Repent, repent!’”

Let’s Get This Party Started

True, the media age has managed to antiquate the once-powerful television commercial, but has it left marketing professionals stumped? Far from it. Welcome to the grand opening of your feelings and emotions. Computer cameras are now being used to track eye movements and other facial muscles to measure your reactions to advertising messages. Which means, people like Jen and me will soon be taking up temporary residence in your brain. House party in your head! Woot, woot! Don’t worry, we won’t trash the place. Mm-ch-mm-ch-mm-ch.

60 second spot commissioned by The New York Times Magazine to describe a new kind of wind power. If only Al Gore had such zippy designers on staff…

In our ongoing effort to bring together the two worlds that define our creative team, (metal and glass) Glasses + Braces is on the hunt for inspiriting imagery that depicts both. Why? Because that’s who we are and what we bring to the world: part fragile, part indestructible, sometimes clear, sometimes cracked, sometimes sharp, and always capable of change. We suspect you guys are similar parts of the same ingredients. Got any photos?

Upload your part metal, part glass images into our album and join the revolution of contrasts.

Glasses + Braces is thrilled to welcome into hardcover existence, Weekend Handmade. Cheers to author and maker of all things clever, Kelly Wilkinson. We hope your book finds its rightful place on living room bookshelves, kitchen windowsills, and on the flat paddle arms of Adirondack chairs everywhere.
Kelly, you are a creative inspiration. Your ideas are an extension of who you are: smart, warm, and meaningful. In fact, I’ve always wondered how someone so grounded can float so easily. You do so much, so well, and completely without fanfare. You are, incidentally, the only person I believe when I hear these words, “You shouldn’t buy that. We can easily make that this weekend.”
Watch Kelly’s trailer, and order the book!

Tom Waits came out with a new album, Bad as Me. If it’s half as rad as his release video, well then I just found my new favorite thing. You know those people who just keep getting better and better? Yeah, me too.
